Local Tour Guide, Stuart

Stuart Mackinnon was born and brought up in the little village of Elgol on the Isle of Skye. He studied Gaelic and Communications at Scotland’s ‘National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture’, Sabhal Mor Ostaig. In 2007 Stuart started working with his parents as a tour guide and skipper on their world-renowned boat trips business based on Skye. He soon realised this was something he really enjoyed and had a genuine and contagious enthusiasm for.

During that time Stuart made various appearances on television and radio to talk about the area, as well as hosting his own weekly show on the local radio station, Radio Skye.

In 2013 Stuart suffered a serious knee injury which put an end to his sea-going tourism career (as well as giving him a welcome excuse to never take up marathon running!)

In 2016 he was delighted to be able to return to tourism, this time offering private luxury tours of the Isle of Skye. Since that time Stuart has enjoyed showing hundreds of private groups around Skye and often leads them on extended tours of other parts of Scotland.

Stuart is joined in Skye Local Tours by his daughter, Heather. Heather runs some of the company admin so you may meet her over emails at some stage!

We look forward to being in touch with you and helping to organise a very special trip to the Isle of Skye.

It is a real privilege to be able to use my background and experience to provide special and memorable tours of Skye.
